1,037 shifted in Navsari as rivers swell

Surat: Around 1 ,037 people of 274 families were shifted to safer locations in Navsari district as rainwater and overflowing rivers flooded their homes in Chikhli, Gandevi and Vansda on Tuesday.Vansda was pounded by 222mm rainfall since early morning till 4pm on Tuesday. Places in the upstream of Kaveri and Ambika rivers also received 159mm of rain resulting in swelling of many rivers,” Modiya said.At 9pm, Ambika river was flowing at 29.95 foot, 1.95 foot above its danger mark, while Kaveri river was flowing at 18 foot, one foot above the danger mark. We have been warning people not to cross the causeways now and had also posted policemen there.”The situation has turned sensitive in Dolvan because the rivers that originate in the Dang hills are flowing turbulently due to massive influx of water.
