Surat: Nishit Patel , the millionaire farmer who is accused of having killed his own son, told police during interrogation on Saturday that he suspected Neev was not his son but of someone else with whom his wife had relations.Nishit was booked at Palsana police station on Friday and later arrested for the alleged murder of his two-year-old son after he confessed to having thrown him into the river on Monday last. He was produced in a local court on Friday which remanded him in police custody for five days.“Nishit suspected that the boy was not his son. However, we have not gone into ascertaining if his suspicion was true or not. We will get DNA comparison of the boy done for detailed investigation once his body is found,” said Rajkumar Pandian, IGP, Surat.Police officials said Nishit was teased by a few people in his village ever since Neev’s birth that he was not the child’s father.The couple told police that after the birth of their first child 11 years ago, they decided not to have second child. But when Nishit’s wife Braina was pregnant with twins two years ago, the couple decided to abort one child. “The couple confessed to having undergone abortion of one child out of the twins in the early stages of pregnancy. The accused’s wife gave birth to only Neev,” Pandian added. Nishit had initially fabricated a story about Neev’s abduction on Monday and that the boy was thrown into the river by his abductors. He later told police that Neev had fallen into the river by his mistake. Ultimately, he confessed to having murdered the child on Thursday. Nishit along with his wife Braina earlier told police during joint questioning that they wanted a girl child to avoid division of property. However, police are not convinced and are questioning the accused to find out the exact reason for him to murder the child.
