Surat: A worker died and another was taken ill after they experienced dizziness and respiratory irritation while cleaning a chemical tank of an industrial unit in Ankleshwar GIDC in Bharuch district on Saturday. Factory inspector GA Gamit said, “Lack of oxygen in the tank seems to be the cause of death of the worker.”Police said Rakesh A Pavra, 23, and Mukesh H Khant, 19, fell unconscious while cleaning the chemical tank in the premises of Dyna Mac Products Ltd. They were taken to Jayaben Modi Hospital in Ankleshwar where doctors declared Rakesh dead on arrival. Mukesh is under treatment and his condition is reported to be stable. However, hospital sources said both had inhaled a poisonous gas in the factory premises. Police have registered a case of accidental death.Gamit told TOI, “Primary analysis points to lack of oxygen as the cause of death of the worker. When the workers entered the tank, it was full of chemical fumes and oxygen content less than 30 per cent. No human can survive in such a condition. It is gross negligence on the part of the management. A case will be registered against the owners of the unit after investigation.”
