Young man’s heart 18th to be donated from Diamond City

This was 18th donation of heart from the Diamond City.Dhaval’s kidneys, liver and pancreas were also donated to the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre, Ahmedabad. The kidneys were transplanted into Nita Makwana, 38, a resident of Dhandhuka, and Reena Choksi, 42, a resident of Ahmedabad. The pancreas and liver have been kept for research at the IKDRC. The doctors on duty declared him brain-dead on August 3. Dhaval, who collapsed on the spot, was immediately taken to BAPS Hospital at Adajan.The CT Scan and other reports suggested there was blood clot in his brain and his chance of recovery was nil.

Surat: A 20-year-old brain-dead man’s organs gave a new lease of life to three people on Saturday.Dhaval Patel, a resident of Kahan Falia from the city’s Mora Bhagal, met with an accident at Sardar Bridge’s approach road, while returning home from his college at Majura Gate on August 2. Dhaval, who collapsed on the spot, was immediately taken to BAPS Hospital at Adajan.The CT Scan and other reports suggested there was blood clot in his brain and his chance of recovery was nil. The doctors on duty declared him brain-dead on August 3. Volunteers of DonateLife, an organization that works for organ donation, got in touch with his family and convinced them to donate Dhaval’s organs.“The family members agreed to donate his heart and other organs since they felt that they would give a new lease of life to several people,” DonateLife president Nilesh Mandlewala said.DonateLife volunteers said Dhaval’s heart was harvested and it travelled 277km from Surat to Mumbai in 109 minutes and transplanted into 54-year-old Mahadev Patel, a resident of Mumbai, at Fortis Hospital.
