Surat: A couple ended life in Puna area of the city on Tuesday, a month after their teenage daughter had eloped with a friend.The couple hanged themselves at their house when no one was present.Hariram Prajapati, 45, and his wife Bhagwati, 40, were found hanging in the kitchen of their residence at Reshma Row House. The couple’s 10-year-old son called his uncle when no one opened the door on his return from tuition class. His uncle came with a duplicate key and opened the door of the house to find the couple hanging in the kitchen.Prajapati, a textile businessman, and his wife were tense ever since their 17-year-old daughter had eloped with a friend. Prajapati had even gone to to New Delhi in search of his daughter, but failed to locate her. Prajapati had for the past few days stopped going to his shop in the textile market.In another incident, Dashrath Patel, 58, and his wife Vimla, 54, residents of Canal Road, Althan, attempted suicide by consuming pesticide.They went to the open fields near Vadod village under Pandesara police station’s limits and consumed the pesticide. They were found unconscious and admitted to a private hospital.Their condition is stable now, police said, adding that the family is into textile business. Family members told police that Patel remained depressed due to some unknown reasons. Police are investigating why the couple decided to end their lives.
