BJP councillor Nancy Sumra accused in graft case surrenders

SURAT: BJP municipal councillor from Saiyedpura Nancy Sumra, who was on the run since August 23 in a graft case , presented herself before the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) in Nanpura on Friday afternoon and was arrested formally. With the help of ACB officials, her father and brother were caught, while Nancy managed to give police the slip.An official from ACB said, “We needed to take her statement. Her father Mohan Sumra and younger brother Prince Alias Vicky Sumra (23) have already been arrested.ACB officials said they will present her in court on Saturday for police remand. After our investigation, it became clear that she is also an accused, so was arrested.” An amount of Rs 20,000 was already paid and when they demanded the remaining amount, a trap was laid to nab them.

Her father and brother were remanded to seven-day police custody in Rs 75,000 bribe case.According to details of the case, Sumras had asked Rs 75,000 bribe form a builder for his two under-construction residential projects. An amount of Rs 20,000 was already paid and when they demanded the remaining amount, a trap was laid to nab them. With the help of ACB officials, her father and brother were caught, while Nancy managed to give police the slip.An official from ACB said, “We needed to take her statement. After our investigation, it became clear that she is also an accused, so was arrested.”
