PAAS workers force schools to shut downin Patidardominated areas

Many schools in Patidar-dominated Varachha, Sarthana, Kapodara, Puna, Amroli and Katargam were shut in the morning after PAAS workers picketed at the schools on Friday. Surat: The city police was caught unawares when Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) members demonstrated in various schools in the Patidar-dominated areas, forcing the management to shut schools to show their solidarity towards Hardik Patel on Friday morning.More than 20 PAAS workers were detained by the police from various parts of Patidar-dominated areas. From last two days, PAAS workers are forcing us to keep our offices shut. The messages of Gujarat bandh allegedly given by PAAS went viral on social media on Friday. The services will remain shut till the situation improves.

Surat: The city police was caught unawares when Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) members demonstrated in various schools in the Patidar-dominated areas, forcing the management to shut schools to show their solidarity towards Hardik Patel on Friday morning.More than 20 PAAS workers were detained by the police from various parts of Patidar-dominated areas. Many schools in Patidar-dominated Varachha, Sarthana, Kapodara, Puna, Amroli and Katargam were shut in the morning after PAAS workers picketed at the schools on Friday. Fearing tension from agitating PAAS workers, the school management took the decision to close morning schools for safety of students.Sources said police patrolling and bandobast has been stepped up in the sensitive areas dominated by Patidars, including Varachha, Katargam, Amroli, Puna and Katargam, after news on PAAS leader Hardik Patel’s deteriorating health and his hospitalization in Ahmedabad spread like a wildfire.The diamond market in Varachha was also affected on the second consecutive day as PAAS workers forced the diamond traders and jewellers to keep their shops shut in support of Hardik.A diamond broker in Varachha Manhar Patel said, “The situation is tensed in Varachha since the day Hardik Patel started indefinite fast in Ahmedabad. From last two days, PAAS workers are forcing us to keep our offices shut. The diamond business in the market has been affected from last two days.”In many residential societies in Patidar-dominated areas, Patidar women played garba and offered prayers to Goddess Amba to protect the health of PAAS leader Hardik.Meanwhile, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) suspended the BRTS and the city bus services from Railway Station via Varachha to Kamrej fearing backlash by PAAS workers. The services will remain shut till the situation improves. The messages of Gujarat bandh allegedly given by PAAS went viral on social media on Friday.
