Gujarat Engineering student thrashed for refusal to donate Rs 1000 in Ganesh festival

SURAT: A 24-year-old engineering student was thrashed and seriously injured by four men in Atul of Valsad district of Gujarat for refusing to give Rs 1,000 as donation in Ganesh festival on Tuesday. They allegedly attacked complainant Pradeep Yadav, a resident of Atul, and his brother Kuldeep, 19, on Tuesday night at around 9.30am. In the attack younger brother of the victim was also thrashed.Police booked Jinal Patel, Harsh Patel and two others from Amli Faliya near Atul of Valsad in Valsad rural police station. But they wanted Rs 1,000 and that much we can’t afford,” he added. He was hit with a large frying skimmer in back and with a stone on forehead.

They were booked for thrashing and criminal intimidation. They allegedly attacked complainant Pradeep Yadav, a resident of Atul, and his brother Kuldeep, 19, on Tuesday night at around 9.30am. They were at their father’s Vada Pav cart when the accused attacked. Yadav was rushed to hospital due to injuries in his back and forehead and after taking treatment he lodged the complaint.“I lodged he complaint to prove my point that by refusing high amount of donation for Ganesh festival I don’t become a lesser Hindu. But it is up to a devotee that how much he wants to contribute,” Yadav told TOI.“Normally we give Rs 151 but since my father was not present at the cart I offered Rs 251 as they were demanding big amount. But they wanted Rs 1,000 and that much we can’t afford,” he added. He was hit with a large frying skimmer in back and with a stone on forehead.
