Surat: Sarita Gayakwad , who won gold medal in the recently held Asian Games in 4X400 relay in Indonesia, was given a rousing reception at the convention hall of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University here on Tuesday.University authorities welcomed her with a bouquet and gave her Rs2lakh cash prize and a memento. The golden girl from the tribal-dominated district of Dang was made brand ambassador of the university also.Sarita said, “It was my dream to wear India colours. I am happy that I was able to make my country proud by winning gold medal in the 4X400 relay in Indonesia. My target now is Olympic Games.” She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others for encouraging her.Talking about the 4x400 relay final in the Asian Games, she said when she got the baton as second change, Indian team was already enjoying 15 metre lead. I just needed to further increase the lead before handing over the baton to third member of the relay team. Our team won by over 25 metre margin in the final, she added.Sarita said she was a kho-kho player in her formative years but became a sprinter later. Vice-chancellor Shivendra Gupta and a number of teachers and university players were present at the felicitation function.
