City hospital gets permission to conduct live kidney transplants

Surat: Tristar Hospital has been granted permission to carry out live kidney transplants by Government of Gujarat. This is government norm.”The hospital has hired specialists to conduct live transplants of kidneys of close relatives of patients. It has become the only hospital in South Gujarat to be allowed to carry out live kidney transplants.Dr Shiv Narain Kalia, vice-president of Tristar Hospital, told TOI, “We have been allowed to carry out live kidney transplants in 25 cases in first year and then will be permitted to carry out cadaver transplants.
