Surat: A 25-year-old pan shop owner was convicted for sexual assault on a two-year-old girl and sentenced to seven year imprisonment by a local court on Tuesday. The minor girl suffered severe injuries in her private parts and had bled for over 12 hours after the sexual assault in Katargam area of the city in March 2015.Hitesh Modi, a resident of Katargam, was convicted under sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and awarded maximum sentence of seven years by the judge.The minor girl was playing outside her residence in Katargam at 8pm on March 28, 2015 and her father was there but busy with some work. Modi who knew her father told him that he was taking the girl with him for a while.Modi sexually assaulted the girl in his pan shop. The girl’s screams made her family to rush to the pan shop where they noticed that she was bleeding from her private parts.The girl’s father took her to a clinic. Doctor gave her some medicines, but the bleeding did not stop until next morning. Meanwhile, Modi escaped from the spot. The family took the girl to Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research where she was operated upon for her injury.
