Civic body claims success in 24x7 water supply project

Surat: A door-to-door survey on the impact of the 24x7 water supply project was conducted by the department of business and industrial management (DBIM), Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), in the new north zone areas.It has been found that water contamination in the last four years has reduced at yearly average of 0.22 per cent compared to 2.17 per cent in other seven municipal zones in the city. Also, the 24x7 supply of water has enhanced the overall prosperity level of residents.The 24x7 water supply pilot project was launched in 2014-15 in the new north zone areas, including Amroli, Kosad and Mota Varachha. The quality of water at consumer end was muddy and turbid, having no chlorine level. The requirement of storing the water was always required by residents due to low supply of water.The impact study by the DBIM department has found that residents are getting clear potable water with adequate amount of chlorine levels on round-the-clock basis. The earning capacity of residents have increased since all members could now go for work as there is no need to store the water.Talking with TOI, additional city engineer KH Khatwani said, “Each and every resident surveyed in the door-to-door survey is happy with the 24x7 water supply project. With the success of the 24x7 project in new north zone, we have already given the work order for areas under smart city project, including Umarwada, Anjana, Magob, Godadara, Dumbhal.
