Hooligans create disturbance in Varachha

Rumours started spreading after the incident that some people had targeted a non-Gujarati fruit cart owner. However, police investigation revealed that a group of hooligans created disturbance to claim its hold in the area similar to some incidents in the past.The hooligans first overturned a fruit cart of a non-Gujarati vendor Shiva and later forced Poonam Dining Hall to close at around 9.30pm on Sunday. Surat: A group of 15 people was booked at Varachha police station on Monday for forcing a dining hall to close down and damaging a fruit cart at Jagdish Nagar in the city. “There is no incidence of violence against migrants in the city so far and the situation is normal. Strong action will be taken against anyone indulging in violence,” he added.

However, police investigation revealed that a group of hooligans created disturbance to claim its hold in the area similar to some incidents in the past.The hooligans first overturned a fruit cart of a non-Gujarati vendor Shiva and later forced Poonam Dining Hall to close at around 9.30pm on Sunday. “The dining hall is owned by a Gujarati and hence we concluded that this hostility was not against non-Gujaratis and was simply hooliganism by anti-social elements,” said R L Solanki, assistant commissioner of police, A division.A police sub-inspector of Varachha police station registered the complaint after the incident came to light. Police have recovered CCTV footages of the area. “We are yet to identify the accused but strict action will be taken against all of them,” police said.Police commissioner holds meeting with officersCity police commissioner Satish Sharma held a meeting with all police officers of the city on Monday to discuss their preparation to tackle any protest against migrant population. “There is no incidence of violence against migrants in the city so far and the situation is normal. We are prepared to tackle any eventuality. Strong action will be taken against anyone indulging in violence,” he added.
