Passenger traffic at airport crosses 1L mark in Sept

Surat: Passenger traffic at Surat airport crossed the historic 1 lakh-mark in September.According to figures published by Airports Authority of India (AAI), total passenger traffic at Surat airport touched a new high of 1.10 lakh passengers. Official sources said the passenger traffic in August 2018 was recorded at 88,653. Increased passenger traffic will prompt more players to enter Surat market and existing airline companies will add more destinations in their network.” The total passenger traffic in the financial year 2018-19 until September was registered at 4.72 lakh.Surat airport registered a total of 1,380 flight movements-1,056 by scheduled operators and 324 non-scheduled- in September alone. With one lakh passenger, it is need of the hour to deploy CISF security cover at the airport.”Manoj Singapuri of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (SGCCI), aviation committee said, “The passenger traffic in a single month is unbelievable.

About 55,468 passengers disembarked at the airport, while 54,721 embarked from the airport in September. The total passenger traffic in the financial year 2018-19 until September was registered at 4.72 lakh.Surat airport registered a total of 1,380 flight movements-1,056 by scheduled operators and 324 non-scheduled- in September alone. These put the per day flight movements by 46 aircraft. At present, the airport is served by Air India, AirAsia, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air Odisha and Ventura Airconnect. Official sources said the passenger traffic in August 2018 was recorded at 88,653. The total passenger traffic has increased by almost 21,000.Sources said the increase in the passenger traffic is attributed to commencement of flight services by IndiGo to various destinations.Airport activist Rajesh Modi said, “Surat airport has crossed a historic milestone of 1 lakh passengers. Now, it is time for central government to seriously think about fast-track development at the airport. With one lakh passenger, it is need of the hour to deploy CISF security cover at the airport.”Manoj Singapuri of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (SGCCI), aviation committee said, “The passenger traffic in a single month is unbelievable. Increased passenger traffic will prompt more players to enter Surat market and existing airline companies will add more destinations in their network.”
