Gold ornaments worth Rs55 lakh and Rs2 lakh cash stolen from brokerrsquos house

Surat: Thieves stole gold ornaments worth Rs5.50 lakh and Rs2 lakh cash from a land broker’s house in Mahidharpura area of the city on November 9. We have asked the housing society authorities to install CCTV cameras at the earliest,” a police officer said. The thieves had escaped with gold earrings, rings, bangles etc and also Rs2 lakh cash in the locker, police said.“The housing society has around 150 houses but doesn’t have CCTV cameras. Ten days ago, the thieves had escaped with Rs2 lakh cash from a retired bank manager’s house in the same area.Harish Sumra, a resident of Alkapuri Society in Mahidharpura, had gone to his sister’s house in Navsari on the occasion of Bhai Bij when the thieves escaped with gold ornaments and cash from his house. He said they were checking CCTV footages of nearby bungalows for some clues about the thieves.

He found his house’s lock and cupboard’s locker broken on return. The thieves had escaped with gold earrings, rings, bangles etc and also Rs2 lakh cash in the locker, police said.“The housing society has around 150 houses but doesn’t have CCTV cameras. We have asked the housing society authorities to install CCTV cameras at the earliest,” a police officer said. He said the housing society authorities have also been asked to appoint a watchman.The safe lock was not on front door, but on the ‘jali’ before it and thus was easy for the thieves to remove it. The police officer said they can’t say at this moment how many thieves had carried out the burglary. He said they were checking CCTV footages of nearby bungalows for some clues about the thieves.
