Anti-Corruption Bureau yet to recover bribe money from income tax officer

SURAT: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths are yet to recover bribe money amounting to Rs1.55 lakh which accused income tax (I-T) inspector Ravindra Bokde had escaped with from near I-T office in Vapi on November 2. After escaping from near Pramukh Green Residency where he accepted the bribe money, Bokde went towards highway and parked the car at the complex. “The accused did not cooperate with ACB sleuths while in police custody for two days.

SURAT: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths are yet to recover bribe money amounting to Rs1.55 lakh which accused income tax (I-T) inspector Ravindra Bokde had escaped with from near I-T office in Vapi on November 2. Bokde was produced in a local court in Vapi on Saturday which remanded him in police custody until Monday.Bokde had surrendered in a court in Vapi on November 14 and later arrested by ACB sleuths. He was produced in the court next day which remanded him in police custody until Saturday. “The accused did not cooperate with ACB sleuths while in police custody for two days. We are yet to recover the bribe money which Bokde had taken with him. The accused is not revealing where he has hid the money,” an ACB officer said.An ASI of ACB tried to stop Bokde’s car when he was escaping in it with the money. The accused drove over the leg of the ASI who suffered injuries in leg and a fracture in a finger. A separate complaint of attempt to murder against Bokde was registered at Vapi town police station. He informed police that he was booked in a police case for attacking some person in Odhav police station around 20 years ago.Police recovered Bokde’s car from Govinda Complex in Vapi near national highway. After escaping from near Pramukh Green Residency where he accepted the bribe money, Bokde went towards highway and parked the car at the complex. He then moved around in different places to avoid police arrest. ACB had booked Bokde on a complaint from a businessman. He was initially demanding Rs2 lakh bribe from the complainant who had been served notices relating to his finance business. The accused later agreed to accept Rs1.55 lakh from the complainant.
