Three die in road accidents in Surat in a day

Surat: Four cases of death in road accidents were registered at different police stations of the city on Saturday. Of the four accidents, a victim knocked down last month succumbed to his injuries a few days ago, but the case was registered with the other three. The three fatal accidents have occurred when the roads are comparatively congestion free because a large number of people are outstation enjoying their Diwali vacation.An unidentified motorcycle rider was booked at Katargam police station for causing death of a pedestrian. Lakshman Sidhhappa Natekar, 55, a resident of Tadwadi, was knocked down by the motorcyclist on October 14 at around 6.05pm. Natekar was crossing road near Nagina Wadi Circle on Bada Ganesh Road in Katargam when the accused motorcyclist knocked him down. Natekar suffered injuries in head and right leg and admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on November 5. Police sub-inspector M V Chavda became complainant in the case since the family has gone to their native place for the last rites of the deceased.In another accident, a four-wheel mini tempo driver was booked at Amroli police station for crushing 45-year-old fruit businessman, Rajbahadur Yadav, to death. Yadav’s son Anurag lodged the police complaint. Yadav, a resident of Kosamba, was driving a three-wheel rickshaw loaded with fruits when it was rammed by the unidentified mini tempo at around 11am. “My father died due to multiple injuries at SMIMER hospital,” Anurag said.Another accident in Amroli claimed the life of a 46-year-old businessman. Subhash Medhpara was crushed to death by an unidentified truck when he was going on a motorcycle from Amroli Sayan Road at 4.15pm. Medhpara was with his friend Ravi, who suffered an injury in waist. Medhpara is survived by his wife and a 10-year-old son. “The family lost a young man in the road accident. Police are yet to inform us if the accused truck driver has been arrested,” said Gaurav, relative of Medhpara.Pradeep Chaudhary, 25, died after suffering serious injuries in an accident near Abhva crossroads on Sachin-Magdalla Highway. Chaudhary, a native of Mordevi village near Valod of Tapi district, was employed in a dyeing unit at Sachin GIDC. He was going with his colleague, Ashish Chaudhary, on a motorcycle when it was hit by a car near Abhva crossroads. Ashish suffered a fracture in hand while Pradeep died due to head injury. Police arrested Sagar Sakariya, a resident of Varachha, for rash driving.“The accidents registered on Saturday were caused due to human error and overspeed. Traffic police are taking various measures to bring down the number of accidents in the city,” said Sudhir Desai, deputy commissioner of police, traffic.
