Poll candidates contesting in Rajasthan polls come calling for people’s support

Surat: For party candidates in poll bound Rajasthan, all roads lead to the Diamond City. After filing nominations from their respective parties, the candidates contesting Rajasthan assembly elections have started visiting the Diamond City, which houses the country’s largest man-made fabric (MMF) textile industry and a huge population of Rajasthani migrant population connected with the textile trade.With most of the textile traders and industrialists in the city hailing from Rajasthan, the party candidates want to get votes as well as funds from their near and dear ones in the assembly constituencies.Sources in the political parties said more than 40 candidates from both the parties have visited the city in the last few days and many more are likely to arrive to seek support from people living in their respective constituencies.Out of the total 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan, the migrant Rajasthani voters in the Diamond City have direct connection on over 80 assembly seats. Majority of assembly seats are in the regions of Marwar, Mewar and Shekhawati, including Jodhpur, Udaipur and Sikar.Dinesh Rajpurohit, who hails from Jodhpur in western Rajasthan and owns a Gujarati thali restaurant, said, “I am closely associated with the BJP since last many years. In every election, candidates from Marwar region visit Surat to appease migrant voters. This time around, we have hosted three candidates, one each from Ahor, Sanchor and Bhinmal assembly constituencies.”According to Rajpurohit, meetings were organized in various parts of the city having the concentration of people from Marwar region. The candidates came all the way from Rajasthan and appealed the people from their native place to ensure their victory in the upcoming assembly election.BJP canadidate from Jalore district’s Aahor assembly constituency Chagan Singh Rajpurohit was in the city on Monday to meet and greet people from his constituency. “I was very much impressed with the response of the people from my constituency living in Surat. All day round we had meetings with various Rajasthani samaj in the city and I am sure I will get their support.”Spokesperson of city Congress Kiran Rayka said, “Most of our Congress candidates will be coming in the city for election campaigning in the next couple of days. We are finalizing the list of candidates. This will allow them to garner votes from the city.”According to Rayka, more than 1,000 buses will be sent to various constituencies across Rajasthan. Most of the buses have been arranged for worker-class voters.
