73yearoldrsquos liver gives new life to Kutch man

Surat: A 62-year-old man from Kutch got a new lease of life on Tuesday after he underwent liver transplant operation. Patel fell unconscious and was rushed to Sardar Hospital in Bardoli and later taken to Yashfin Hospital of Navsari. He had suffered brain haemorrhage and was declared dead on December 10.His brothers Vijay and Nilesh said, “We were told that Bhogilal’s organs could give new lease of life to someone. Narayan Nailram Tulsiyani from Kutch received the liver from 73-year-old Bhogilal Patel from Kadod in Surat district, who had died in a road accident on December 10.On December 8, Patel was on his way to his house on a bicycle when a speeding loading autorickshaw rammed into him from behind. So we decided to donate his organs.”A team of doctors from Ahmedabad’s Institute of Kidney Disease and Research centre (IKDRC) reached Navsari hospital where Patel had died and harvested his two kidneys and liver.The liver was transplanted into Tulsiyani, whereas both his kidneys were kept by IKDRC for research purpose.
