SURAT: Salabatpura police booked a chemicals broker for allegedly cheating a businessman of Rs 19.41 lakh.The accused Gopal alias Amit Rathi, a resident of Bamroli, did not make payment to businessman Ghanshyam Soni, 48, even after receiving the cheques from buyer.Soni alleged that Rathi has been cheating him since May 2018. Soni, who runs his chemical Maheshwari Enterprise from Ring Road, came in touch with Rathi five years ago during a business deal at Pandesara. Rathi also started bringing business for Soni. He purchased chemical from Soni to supply to his clients in Palsana.In May, Rathi purchased chemicals worth Rs 19.41 lakh for his clients. However, he did not give Soni the cheques he collected from the clients for the material supplied . Rathi allegedly opened a bank account with a name similar to that of the complainant and deposited the cheque in that account. He later withdrew the money.“We are yet to arrest the accused. Police will register his statement and further action will be taken after collecting evidences,” said the police.
