Two burglars held, one injures himself in bid to escape

Surat: Police arrested one person and detained his minor associate for attempting to steal mobile phones worth Rs15 lakh from a shop located under the limits of Katargam police station here on Saturday. The third member of the gang injured himself when he jumped on road from the terrace of the building in his bid to escape when the police arrived.Vishal Kumar, 19, an employee in a unit at Katargam GIDC and native of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by police and his 13-year-old associate detained. Sachin, who sustained injuries after he jumped from the second floor terrace of the building, is undergoing treatment in a hospital. He will be arrested upon his discharge from the hospital. The thieves collected the phones in a plastic bag but police on patrolling duty noticed something suspicious at the shop, and reached there.Sachin, who was keeping an eye outside the shop, jumped from the second floor terrace on noticing the cops. Police were told about Sachin by the two after they were nabbed in the shop.“A police patrol team had reached the spot at right time on noticing that something was amiss. The burglars not only damaged the shop, but they also attacked the cops with glasses,” said a police officer at Katargam police station. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the shop.
