SURAT: When the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has banned the diesel vehicles that are 10-year-old across the country, there are 30,000 vehicles registered by the regional transport office (RTO) falling in the same category. The transport office has taken the initiative to contact the vehicle owners to scrap such vehicles as per the NGT guidelines.The NGT had ordered in the first week of December to apply its directive aimed at curbing vehicular pollution in Delhi to Gujarat . Over the last three years, NGT has ordered to take all heavy vehicles that are 10 years old off the roads. It also ordered to put restrictions on registration of diesel vehicles.The NGT’s principal bench ordered so while disposing a petition filed by one Mushtak Kadri, asking the tribunal to restrain state governments from purchasing new diesel vehicles and phaseout heavy vehicles aged 10 years old and above.Official sources said there are about 30,000 vehicles that are 10-year-old in the city. These vehicles have to be taken off the road in order to follow the NGT order.
