Surat: Farmer leaders from South Gujarat under the aegis of Gujarat Khedut Samaj (GKS) met Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president and leader of opposition in Gujarat Assembly on Tuesday over the issues facing the farmers in the region ahead of the visit of Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Valsad’s Dharampur.A meeting was organized by GKS with GPCC president Amit Chavda and opposition Congress leader Paresh Dhanani at Amadpore in Navsari district.Farmer leaders said the GKS has submitted a list of 24 demands and that it will be forwarded to Congress president Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Valsad’s Dharampur on February 14. Amit Chavda and Paresh Dhanani have assured to include some of the demands of the farmers in the party manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.GKS president Jayesh Patel said, “A delegation of South Gujarat farmer leaders will be meeting Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Dharampur on February 14. We have submitted 24 demands to Congress president, including land for bullet train project, Bharat Mala project, Delhi-Mumbai freight corridor and income tax on sugar mills. Farmers from across the region will be attending the public meeting of Rahul Gandhi on February 14.”Darshan Naik, leader of GKS, said, “The demands of South Gujarat farmers will be added in the Congress manifesto. The farmers will extend support to that political party which resolves their issues. We hope Rahul Gandhi will help the farmers.”
