150 shops sealed for violating fire safety norm

Surat: Fire officials sealed as many as 150 shops in a commercial complex and mall located on Althan Canal road on Wednesday morning. They were given reminder on February 4 again but the shops owner did not comply with the order.“Unless the shop owners install fire safety system as prescribed by the fire department none of them will be allowed to open their shops,” said Parikh.This commercial complex houses shops bank offices, a hospital, medical shop to name a few. However, there are some who did not care, so we have to have sealed their shops.”Fire officials said that offices of GST department located on third and fourth floor of the complex, who were also given notices for compliance with fire safety standards, were not sealed.According to fire officials, first notice was issued to the 150-odd shops owners with regard to fire safety regulations on December 17, 2018.
