Over 10000 students take oath not to marry without parentsrsquo consent

SURAT: Over 10 ,000 students of 20 schools and colleges in the city remembered Saint Valentine, the patron saint of love the day dedicated to his memory , by taking a pledge not to marry without their parents’ consent. Around 700 students of Wadia Women’s College, 350 of Wadia College Vidya Mandir, 1,150 of Savani School, 450 of TMT college, 1,200 of Sanskar Bharti School, 550 of Sanskarkunj Gyanpith, 700 of Presidency School, 400 of Navchetan Vidyalaya, 750 of Swaminarayan Vidyalaya, 520 of Sungrace Vidyalaya, 450 of Sunrays Vidyalaya and 500 of Sunrise Vidyalaya were among those who took part in the oath taking ceremony.Vikas Doshi, a volunteer of Youth Nation, said, “We are amazed at the response of the students. Parents play a very important role in their lives and hence they believe marriage should only happen with the consent of parents.”Kamlesh Masalawala, laughter guru, one of those who organized the event, said, “We have received positive response from across the city. People want our country’s culture and traditions to be kept intact. Love can happen to anyone, but for that you can’t reject your beloved parents. Youths have assured us that we are on right track as a society and nation.”Palak Shah, a member of Youth Nation, who was at Wadia Women’s College, said, “We could feel the acceptance of this idea by the students. They ensured that the event was held with maximum participation in the early morning hours today.”Heena Dave, a student of Wadia Women’s College, said, “Yes, love is important but so are family values. If you love someone, your family members will give their consent for marriage in due course of time. It is our tradition to respect and love our elders.”Dimple Patel and Krishna Chauhan, who also took the oath, said “Word love should be seen in the broader sense.”
