Mud bath to add patriotic flavour to holi celebrations in Surat

Many revellers, he added, prefer eating leafy vegetables, dry fruits and jaggery for the overall wellness after taking the mud bath. The special mud also cures insomnia, depression, stress and laziness. The mud paste is applied on the entire body.

Surat: This time Surtis will blend in a dash of patriotism to their celebration of colours. With holi and dhuleti inching closer, hundreds of youngsters in Surat are planning to gather on the Surat-Dumas road to celebrate the festival with ‘Desh Ki Mitti’ (soil of the country). Students from various schools in the city have thus organised ‘mud festival’ for holi and dhuleti festival. A giant swimming pool filled with desi soil or Multani Mitti has been prepared at the Sai Baba Temple on Surat Dumas road for revellers to take a dip for fun and overall benefit of skin and heath.Sources said that the mud bath will contain a paste prepared by mixing nearly 169 herbal plants having ayurvdic medicinal properties. Taking mud baths in holi has a special purpose too. It cleanses and calms the reveller both menatally as well physically. The soil used in the mud bath comprises 50 herbal plants which are usually applied on the face for rejuvenation purpose.Organier of the mud festival, Siddharth said, “The special mud used during holi is prepared by crushing neem leaves, rose petals, sandalwood paste, multani mitti and mixing all the ingredients with cow urine. The mud paste is applied on the entire body. After the mud gets dry, a type of sukshi yog is performed by the revellers.
