Plasma donation in Surat on the brink of reaching 1000 mark

The city of Gujarat has been leading in recuperating plasma donation which is now close to reach 1000 mark. According to Sunday report 939 people had donated their plasma.

 

The blood banks in Surat have achieved the milestone after receiving swathes of plasma donations, according to the different blood banks in the city, till Sunday a total of 939 people had donated their plasma and many more are looking forward to contribute and help COVID patients recover steadily. While the Surat Municipal Cooperation (SMC) run SIMMER hospital and New Civil Hospital (NHC) got permission for plasma donation in first week of July. Later two more city based blood bank also acquired grant- Lok Samarpan Raktdan Kendra and Surat Raktdan Kendra got permission for plasma collection from Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on July 28.

According to various reports till date 1,569 units of plasma have been issued to patients for convalescent therapy in the city. Whereas SIMMER hospital is leading in plasma donations since the beginning and has received 535 donors, 222 people donated plasma at NHC while 150 and 32 people donated at LSRK and Surat Raktdan Kendra respectively.

Official of one of the blood bank stated ‘’a large number of people, employee of industrial units are donating plasma. Many diamond units are encouraging their employees to donate plasma and help other patients under treatment’’. As per the ICMR guidelines patients can donate plasma after 28 days of recovery.
