An argument over the sequence followed for vaccination triggered the rage among the people who alleged that a few people were being vaccinated out of turn.
Unruly scenes were witnessed at a Covid-19 vaccination centre at Vesu municipal school on Thursday as a group of people who had come for vaccination attacked the medical team there after argument over following sequence during vaccination.
Three persons out of the eight booked for attack on three medical staff, including two doctors of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), were detained by the police.
They were booked for rioting, assault, damage to public property and under Gujarat Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss of Property) Act, 2012.

When one of the health team staff explained that there was a separate queue for frontline workers, the people started thrashing him. “The man somehow managed to call the woman doctor in-charge of the vaccination centre over phone,” said an official of Umra police station.
“The female doctor rescued the man and took her team and locked themselves inside a room. They also placed benches behind the door to prevent the attacker from entering. But the crowd had gone so violent that they broke the door and entered the room,” the cop said.
It pushed the benches and thrashed the health team. Those attacked include a woman doctor and two other staff members who suffered minor injuries.
Police baton-charged the people who had turned violent to bring the situation under control. All involved in the attack were residents of Vesu.
“We had to use force to disperse the crowd that was getting unruly. We have booked eight persons and detained three of them,” the police officials said.
Those booked include Jitesh Patel, his wife Bhavna, father Ishwar, mother Hansa, Fenil Patel, Navin Patel, Zeel Patel and Jitu Patel.
