Probationary PSI held taking Rs 1.25 lakh bribe

SURAT: A probationary police sub-inspector posted at Mahidharpura police station and an advocate were arrested for demanding bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh on Saturday by anti-corruption sleuths in Surat. The accused had initially demanded Rs10 lakh to start process on an application submitted by the complainant and finally settled for Rs 1.25 lakh.The anti corruption bureau (ACB) team nabbed J M Jadeja , a PSI and advocate Paras Vasani , for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh from a complainant at Sahara Darwaja. ACB officials said that Vasani had accepted the cash on behalf of Jadeja.ACB received a complaint over its toll-free number after which it laid a trap. Jadeja posted at Delhi Gate police chowky was assigned the probe.

So far, investigation revealed that the accused had demanded the money from the complainant who had submitted an application to register an FIR.The complainant has submitted application to register an FIR against an alleged chit fund racket where the operators had disappeared with people's money.
