Surat textile firm’s Facebook account hacked, extortion demanded

The accused had hacked Facebook account of the complainant's business Shayona Fashion on June 18. Since then the Facebook page was not visible online, the complainant claimed.A textile products manufacturer Lakhani had created the Facebook page for marketing and to reach customers. SURAT: Police booked an unidentified person in Chowk Bazaar police station on Saturday for allegedly extorting Rs 3000 to restore a hacked Facebook account of a textile business firm. Lakhani's partner received a call from the accused and claimed that the Facebook page will be blocked if they don't provide specific details. He also has an online business portal through which he sells his products.

SURAT: Police booked an unidentified person in Chowk Bazaar police station on Saturday for allegedly extorting Rs 3000 to restore a hacked Facebook account of a textile business firm. The accused had demanded Rs 18,000 after hacking Facebook account of the complainant's business.Girish Lakhani, 39, a businessman, lodged the complaint in Chowk Bazaar police station following harassment by the unidentified persons to extort money from him. The accused had hacked Facebook account of the complainant's business Shayona Fashion on June 18. Since then the Facebook page was not visible online, the complainant claimed.A textile products manufacturer Lakhani had created the Facebook page for marketing and to reach customers. He also has an online business portal through which he sells his products. Meanwhile, the online business is managed by his partner. Lakhani's partner received a call from the accused and claimed that the Facebook page will be blocked if they don't provide specific details. By threatening the victims the accused collected the Facebook's account's details and later hacked it by using those details.After hacking the account the accused started making extortion calls. Initially he threatened Lakhani that if he want his Facebook page back then he has to pay Rs 18,000. He also threatened that he would sell the page to someone else where it can be misused. The accused also used abusive language with the complainant over phone.
