Gujarati diamanaires in Hong Kong donates Rs 10 lakh to firefighter’s family

SURAT: The Gujarati diamond community in Hong Kong came forward to help the family members of a firefighter who died following serious injuries from rescuing two hikers trapped below a cliff on Ma On Shan.Principal firefighter Yau Siu-ming of Tin Sum fire station in Tai Wai was on a rescue mission with a colleague at Tiu Shau Ngam rocks in March-2017. He was later declared dead by the doctors at a hospital in Hong Kong.To this, the Gujarati diamond community in Hong Kong, who runs a non-profit group, Sarjan , donated HKD 120,000 or Rs 10 lakh to next of the kin of the firefighter's family at the 11th Annual award function held in Hong Kong recently.The cheque worth Rs 10 lakh was given away to Lau Lelen, widow of the firefighter and that the cheque was accepted by Lin Kin-Yat, director of fireservices.Other dignitaries including those from Hong Kong's security bureau, police department, immigration department, education department along with and district councilor attended this grand event.
