SURAT: Police arrested a 25-year-old labour in Navsari on Thursday for sensational murder of Sheetal Desai, a 37-year-old woman resident of Sarvoday Society in Navsari city. The accused had allegedly murdered the woman on July 12 since the deceased refused to pay him Rs 300 more for the plumbing and repairing work done by him.Police arrested Jayesh Halpati, a resident of Halpativas in Navsari, for allegedly murdering Sheetal Desai. Police traced the accused from information about his movement and also electronic surveillance. "The accused was picked by police after we came to know that he was present in the area and detailed questioning revealed that he murdered the woman for money. It was a blind case and we succeeded in detecting it," said M S Bharada , superintendent of police, Navsari.Police investigation revealed that Halpati had come to fix a geyser in bathroom at Desai's residence on July 11. The deceased had called the accused for some plumbing and other civil repairing work on next day. Halpati came at around 11 am after Desai's husband had left from home. The deceased got the repairing work done in bathroom and terrace after which the accused demanded Rs 500.The deceased paid Rs 200 after which the accused murdered her brutally stabbed her with knife, scissor and smothered her with pillow. He also strangulated her using a wire and then hanged her to ceiling.
