SURAT: A city based diamond trader was shocked when he found diamonds worth Rs 7.19 lakh replaced with sugar granules. The trader approached police and lodged a complaint against the broker who allegedly replaced the 29.67 carat polished diamonds with sugar.Police booked the broker in Varachha police station on Tuesday for the alleged cheating. Police booked Lalaji Jayanti Kyada , a resident of Yogi Chowk, for the alleged cheating with complainant Zaver Dhaduk , 42, a resident of Sarthana. The accused allegedly duped the victim in August 2016 and did not make payment or returned the diamonds despite several reminders by the complainant. On failing to recover the money Dhaduk lodged the complaint in police.Kyada made purchases from Dhaduk in past and made timely payment. He earned trust of the complainant. On August 28, 2016, Kyada called Dhaduk over phone and asked him to send the packet of 29.67 carat polished diamonds. Kyada told Dhaduk that he will make payment immediately in cash after receiving the packet. Due to their business terms Dhaduk trusted Kyada and sent the diamond pouch.Kyada took the pouch from Dhaduk's man for weighing and returned in a while. Later when Dhaduk checked the pouch contained only sugar granules. #
