  • | Saturday | 24th March, 2018

The work on the third Kalwa Bridge over the Thane creek was proposed in 2012 to ease traffic in Thane, Kalwa and Thane Belapur Road . The sensors in the system will detect minor structural changes in the bridge and warn officials about defects to ensure timely repairs. The plan is to avoid a repeat of the Versova bridge fiasco where the administration was alerted very late about the failing health of the structure,” informed an official. The cost of the bridge is around Rs 180cr. The sensors will be linked to the terminals on the bridge where engineers will be able to connect their laptops and download the stability status of the structure instantly.“The device will monitor all minute deterioration reported in the bridge structure along with any corrosion reported in the steel or concrete used for construction of the bridge.
