While it hasn’t rained properly since Saturday, our compound is still filled with the mucky remnants of the drainage water. So, during rains there is a three to five feet accumulation of drainage water in our area. While that will take some time, we will make sure to place suction pumps at regular intervals in this area during heavy rains so that excessive water is drained out and no flooding takes place,” said Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commission, TMC. This causes a lot of rodents and dirt in the are which can lead to illness.“As our societies is a low lying area. I have approached a senior civic official for help as the first rain had reduced our area to a marsh once again.

THANE: Although Kalwa’s Dattawadi area residents are yet to receive a permanent solution from the constant waterlogging taking place in their society and at times even in their homes, the civic administration has assured them that they would install suction pumps in the area to avoid flooding during heavy rains.Over the past decade, residents of this area have had to wade through knee-deep water to enter their homes as the drainage water, which accumulates along the railway tracks behind their societies, flows into their low lying area. This causes a lot of rodents and dirt in the are which can lead to illness.“As our societies is a low lying area. So, during rains there is a three to five feet accumulation of drainage water in our area. At times, even with a drizzle the place tends to get flooded. While it hasn’t rained properly since Saturday, our compound is still filled with the mucky remnants of the drainage water. Insects and rodents have become the order of the day,” said P Jaisinghani, a senior citizen from Lilavati Nagar CHS.After these residents approached the Kalwa ward office with their grievances last year, the officials visited the area and wrote a detailed report on the poor conditions and the need for a pakka nullah for the waste water to flow. With no action taken on this front since a year after the recce, citizens, on Friday, once again approached the TMC officials at its headquarters in Pachpakhadi.“Even though the officials promised us a pakka nullah behind our society, no work has started. I have approached a senior civic official for help as the first rain had reduced our area to a marsh once again. Things will get worse in the next few months,” said Jaisinghani. While the construction of the new drainage line will take time, civic officials have assured citizens that they will not face waterlogging problem this year as a number of suction pumps will be installed on days when the rainfall is heavy.“Constructing a new nullah is a lengthy process and it requires numerous procedures, including tying up with the railways as the main drain is on the railway tracks behind their society. While that will take some time, we will make sure to place suction pumps at regular intervals in this area during heavy rains so that excessive water is drained out and no flooding takes place,” said Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commission, TMC.
