21 secondary schools in Thane district unauthorised: Survey

NAVI MUMBAI: The Thane zilla parishad’s secondary education department has released a list of 21 unrecognised secondary schools in the entire Thane district, including eight in the Thane municipal corporation (TMC) and five in Navi Mumbai municipal corporation (NMMC) for the current academic year.The list of illegal secondary schools consist of 13 English medium and four each of Marathi and Hindi medium schools operating within the district. The zilla parishad secondary education wing has cautioned parents from admitting their children to such. The zilla parishad has already served notices to these schools to stop functioning and have said that they would take stern action. Parents must be careful before admitting their children to schools.

The NMMC has asked the managements of these schools for immediate closure.Chief executive officer (CEO), Thane zilla parishad, Vivek Bhimanvar, said, “After the recent survey, we found 21 unauthorised schools within Thane district. These schools have not obtained the required permission from the authorities. Parents must be careful before admitting their children to schools. The zilla parishad will not be responsible for any loss caused to the children or their parents, which is why they are alerted through the release of the list.”Most schools have not received mandatory permissions from the state, district and local bodies.They are termed as unauthorized. The zilla parishad has already served notices to these schools to stop functioning and have said that they would take stern action. Some of the schools have applied to the state for recognition but running the business when the response is awaited.“Action will be initiated soon if the schools failed to comply with the order,” said an officer.
