Most of them are caught up with school, tuitions and other classes. This lifestyle, along with changing food habits, is a major cause of their health issues. Through yoga, we hope to remind them about how just a few minutes of breathing exercise can help them relax and concentrate better,” said a teacher from St. John the Baptist school.“In the recent times, we have included yoga in our curriculum and have even hired two yoga instructors who teach various asanas, including chakrasan, pranayam, dhanurasan amongst others on a weekly basis. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, we will be preparing a PPT of all activities carried out in previous year and reiterate the health benefits of these ancient exercises,” said Simmi Juneja, principal of DAV school. Many schools have called in professionals to speak to their students about the importance of yoga.“While we begin every day with a class on yoga, our students have been practicing more complex asanas for the yoga competition and other workshops held on this day. In addition to this, we have also called in speakers to talk to our students about the transformation of yoga from the ancient form to the contemporary one,” said Meenakshi Iyer, principal of Sri Ma School. “Yoga helps students not only with health, but also in their concentration and focus, memory and confidence building and reducing stress, which makes it our responsibilities as academicians to teach it to them,” Iyer added.
