10 scrap godowns gutted after fire breaks out in Kausa warehouse

THANE: A massive fire broke out at a warehouse near Rahimiyah Masjid in Kausa on Thursday, gutting 10 godowns owned by scrap merchants. The flames then engulfed nine other godowns in the area. No injuries were reported but three motorbikes that were parked in the premises were severly damaged.Officials said that the fire began in one of the warehouses which stored scrap materials, including old rubber tyres. So, it is difficult to say from which godown the fire could have originated. The cause is also not yet ascertained,” a fire official said.

The flames then engulfed nine other godowns in the area. An alert resident noticed the flames and informed the authorities who rushed to the spot with three fire engines, one rescue vehicle, three water tankers and one jumbo water tanker.It took the fire brigade officials nearly two hours to bring the situation under control. “All the 10 warehouses have been charred. So, it is difficult to say from which godown the fire could have originated. The cause is also not yet ascertained,” a fire official said.
