THANE: After over two weeks of partial cloudy skies, scanty rains and high humidity, lake-city residents can expect a proper monsoon as weathermen have predicted high intensity rainfall in Mumbai, Thane and Dahanu from Friday till next Wednesday. While the city has received a glimpse of monsoon on June 9, the next 10 days was humid and hot as there was no or very scanty rainfall. To make matters worse, the humidity levels, which increased due to the short drizzle spells, made the climate unbearable for residents. While the maximum temperature in the city had dropped to 30.4 degrees Celsius on June 9, it has been hovering between 33.2 degrees Celsius and 36.3 degrees Celsius since then.Similarly, the minimum temperature rose from to 25.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday to 26 degrees Celsius on Sunday and then to 29 degrees Celsius on Monday.Meteorologists assert that rain bearing clouds which were moving southwards towards the southern Konkan region is now heading upward towards north Konkan regions, Mumbai and Thane. These areas will experience high intensity rainfall by next week.“The trough is already almost over the island city of Mumbai and will drift further upwards to Thane and Dahanu by Friday and Saturday. This will lead to high intensity rains and thundershowers in these areas.
