Thane cops to keep tabs on social media

THANE: Two days after five people were lynched in Dhule following messages on social media about a gang of child lifters in the area, the city police are keeping tabs on the activities on the social media.In a bid to counter such rumours from spreading, the law enforcement agencies are keeping tabs on social media sites. "Anyone found forwarding such messages will get into trouble and legal action will be take against them for spreading wrong information,'' a senior police official said. The police have warned citizens against forwarding such messages and urged residents to inform the police if they come across anyone suspicious.A senior police official said that they have not found any kidnapping gangs operating under the Thane police commissionerate.
