Flu alarm bells in city; cases up by 40% after first rain showers

As per the doctors’ claims, there has been approximately 40% rise in the number of patients coming with viral flu.The doctors stated that these air-borne illnesses are difficult to prevent and spread very easily. In such situation, if even one person in the family gets flu there are chances that it affects every member.“There has been around 40 percent rise in the number of patients suffering from cold, cough and fever since monsoon has started. Also, along with these air-borne illnesses people often complain of headaches and body pain. It is difficult to avoid flu during this season as the bacteria spreads easily and the immune system tends to become weak. It is advised to do a check-up if the cold or fever lasts for more than five days,” said Dr Atul Gupte, a local physician.The medical experts stated that not only adults but even kids have been suffering from the same ailments. People tend to get wet in the rains and have ice creams which make matters worse.“There has been an increase of around 30% in the number of people suffering from respiratory tract infections, redness of throat, sore throat etc. Due to the humid environment many even suffer from fungal growth in the ears as the bacteria thrive on damp environment and one complains of ear ache. Some even come with preformation in the ears and water coming out of the ear,” said Dr Rahul Kulkarni, ENT specialist.The doctors suggest citizens to make sure to have boiled water cooked and warm meals in order to keep the body warm .
