After these discussions, we have hardly seen any students opt for canteen food,” she added.“We have also limited our outdoor activities as a preventive measure. THANE: City schools have been hosting discussions and workshops on preventive measures to be taken during monsoon in an attempt to ensure the safety of students.While the faculty across most schools have been holding classroom discussions on the need to stick to home-cooked food or keeping away from puddles and water-logged areas to avoid catching various ailments, some others have even limited the school outdoor activities as a precautionary measure. We gauge the severity of the rain every day at around 6am to 7am, much before the school starts, and intimate the parents about whether we have a holiday or not via a mobile application we have set up for our faculty and parents,” said Lipika Chandra, principal of Lokpuram Public School. While the first part focussed on reassuring these parents that their children would safely wait back in school in case of heavy rainfall until they are picked up by someone or a teacher dropped them home, the second part was about dietary safety.”“We discussed the spread of water-borne ailments during monsoon through food cooked or kept in unhygienic conditions and urged the students to stick to home-cooked meals through the season.
