Navi Mumbai airport phase one construction cost up by 50%

The GVK company which runs the Mumbai airport had won the bid for construction and operation of Navi Mumbai airport. NAVI MUMBAI: The cost of building a secondary airport for Mumbai has gone up by about 50% as Navi Mumbai airport 's first phase will now cost Rs 13,560 crore instead of the earlier estimate of Rs 9,000 crore.According to a CRISIL report, the phase I of the airport project, which will handle 10 million passengers, will cost Rs 13,560 crore. GVK's Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), the strategic partner in the Navi Mumbai airport, with 74% equity will bear the extra cost for phase I, said a source. If there is any extra cost, it would be borne by the the operator." He added that CRISIL, the rating agency, has done a project cost estimate and given excellent A+ rating.

He added that CRISIL, the rating agency, has done a project cost estimate and given excellent A+ rating. "MIAL has not submitted any financial closure details to stock exchange," he said.Joint MD, Cidco, Prajakta Lavangre Verma told TOI: "Our equity stake contribution is a constant and there will be no change. If there is any extra cost, it would be borne by the the operator."
