Cop plaint against contractor if roads develop potholes

  • | Wednesday | 18th July, 2018

The contractors evidently do not follow the norms laid out for road construction and repairs. The corporation is simply spending money on the repairs. The defect liability period of all roads has been fixed and the contractor is responsible for the maintenance of the same,” said city engineer Anil Patil during the meeting. The issue was raised by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Narayan Pawar, who questioned the silence of the civic body over the repeated potholes surfacing on city roads. The elected representatives trained their guns on the ineffectiveness of the ruling party to ensure quality in works and pointed out how the guardian minister and the municipal commissioner were forced to step out on the road to resolve the matter. Why is the administration not taking action on such contractors and blacklisting them or even reporting the incidents to the police,” questioned Pawar. It may be recalled that nearly 8,220sqm roads were damaged over the last few days at Thane raising questions over the quality of roads in the city.

Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation ( TMC ) will now register police complaints against civic contractors if the road stretch recently undertaken for repair or construction by them frequently develop potholes. The announcement was made by the civic body at the standing committee meeting on Wednesday after members alleged an unholy nexus between select civic officials and contractors. The TMC said that it will file police complaints against the contractors if the specific roads under their contract develop frequent damages and remain unattended.“We will file police complaints against contractors for breach of contract if the roads repaired or constructed recently develop potholes or suffer damages. He questioned the process how the administration allocated crores of rupees for repairs, which eventually was swallowed by the contractor firms while there was no audit of the repair works done or holding those who are guilty of sub-standard work.“Roads have been developing potholes frequently and there is no quality check of the repair works that are being done. The contractors evidently do not follow the norms laid out for road construction and repairs. The corporation is simply spending money on the repairs. Why is the administration not taking action on such contractors and blacklisting them or even reporting the incidents to the police,” questioned Pawar. It may be recalled that nearly 8,220sqm roads were damaged over the last few days at Thane raising questions over the quality of roads in the city.
