Thane colleges see dip in cut-off in 2nd round of first year junior colleges list

The third merit list is likely to be out on July 26.The cut-off for the second merit list in Science fell by only 0.65%. A drop of around 0.3 to five per cent was seen across all streams when the second merit list was out on Thursday. THANE: Most junior colleges in the city have marginally reduced the cut-off percentage for admissions to the first year junior colleges (FYJC). This is because there is more demand for specialized subjects like banking, insurance and finance, while there is not much demand for Commerce subjects. In our college, almost 60% of the seats got filled in the first merit list itself.

A drop of around 0.3 to five per cent was seen across all streams when the second merit list was out on Thursday. However, M H high school witnessed a massive drop of 12% in the Arts stream and a drop of 10% in Science stream.Parmeshwar Gatkal, founder and principal of Shubham Raje Junior College , said, “The cut-off for the second merit list in Science fell by only 0.65%. But, the commerce cut-off dipped by 3%. This is because there is more demand for specialized subjects like banking, insurance and finance, while there is not much demand for Commerce subjects. So, the cut off has slightly dropped.” While most coveted colleges in the city have witnessed a fall in percent, Satish Pradhan Dnyansadhana College surprisingly saw a massive rise in cut-off rate.“Our Arts cut off increased by 20%, whereas in Commerce it rose by 8% and in Science by 1.5%. In our college, almost 60% of the seats got filled in the first merit list itself. Now for the second list, the number of applicants are more and the seats available are less, pushing the cut-off rate up,” said Dinesh Joshi, a professor from the college.Students were given time till Saturday to make their payments and secure their seats.
