Bangladeshi women get 3-year simple imprisonment

THANE: Two women from Bangladesh , found guilty of staying in India without passport and visa, were convicted and sentenced to three-year simple imprisonment and imposed with a fine of Rs 10,000 each by the district court on Friday.Assistant sessions judge, N H Makhare, recently convicted Rubina Khatun Shaikh and Sabina Noorslam Shaikh.The duo was tried for the offences punishable under under Rule 3(a) Punishable under Rule 6(a) of Passport (Entry into India) Rules 1950 & 14 of Foreigners Act, 1946.Prosecutor Vivek Kadu told the court that it was on November 27, 2013 when assistant police inspector Amol Ahir, attached to the Prevention of Immoral Woman Trafficking of Thane rural police, received information that citizens of Bangladesh had gathered at Haider Chowk, Nayanagar in Mira Road for some labour work.
