Two jail inmates booked for attacking prison staff

THANE: Two inmates of the Thane central jail were booked by the city police for allegedly attacking officials from the prison department.The police said that an offence has been registered by Satish Mane, a prison officer. He was joined in by Singh who came to Nair’s rescue.The police said that offences under Sections 353, 504, and 427 of the IPC were registered with the Thane Nagar police station. He also assaulted the other jailor present,” said the officer. The former then gave him tobacco and salt water for the capsule to come out and this complain was being examined,” said the officer.“On August 25, when Nair was called to the circle office, he abused the officials using foul language and rushed towards the complainant jailor to attack him. In his complaint, he has alleged that he was carrying out an investigation along with another official into a bullying case of an inmate by one of the accused when the incident took place.The booked men have been identified as Ashish Nair and Abhinav Singh.A police officer, quoting the complaint, said that the jail authorities received a complaint from one of the inmates, Chotelal Sahani that Nair had given him a capsule on August 18, 2018 when they were at Dindoshi court Police added that it was immediately not known as to what the capsule was and the same was being probed presently, but they suspect that it could be a sort of drug rolled in plastic which is to be gulped and thrown out later and consumed inside the jail.“Nair, with the help of other inmates, was bullying him and asking him to fish out the capsule which Sahani had consumed.
