‘Noise level remains high in city, DJ sound walls add to it’

When these systems were switched off intermittently, the noise was bearable. “The idea is to promote dahi handi as a sport for which we should set an example by staging a single handi probably at the Dadoji Kondeo stadium and invite mandals from Mumbai also to participate instead of blocking roads,” added Dr Bedekar. Yet, all these readings were high as they were in residential zones where the noise limits should not exceed 55dB,” said Dr Bedekar, who said he will be submitting the same before the Bombay high court soon.Activists stressed on the need of having a single Thane dahi handi celebrations that could become the identity of the city.

The noise levels increased considerably due to the use of DJ wall systems, he added.According to the readings shared by Dr Bedekar after his visit to six mandal venues in the first half of the day, the highest noise levels were recorded at Bhagvati High School in Naupada while that organized by Sanskriti Pratishthan showed the same readings between 80-95dB.“The noise levels had increased due to the use of the DJ wall systems at these venues. When these systems were switched off intermittently, the noise was bearable.
