Mumbai, Thane schools retain top spots in all-India survey

MUMBAI: For yet another year, several schools in and around Mumbai continued their stronghold in the top 10 positions under different categories in an annual national survey. “We are delighted that DAIS has been ranked the best international school for the sixth consecutive year...Thiswill further inspire us to set new benchmarks, year after year,” said Nita Ambani, founder & chairperson, Dhirubhai Ambani International School. While Oberoi International School was ranked second in the category, Ecole Mondiale World School stood third.Kendriya Vidyalaya, IITBombay, Powai , dropped to number five from four last year in the government day school category.

MUMBAI: For yet another year, several schools in and around Mumbai continued their stronghold in the top 10 positions under different categories in an annual national survey. Among international schools, Mumbai schools held eight of the 10 ranks with Dhirubhai Ambani International School at Bandra-Kurla Complex topping the list. Thane’s Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School was ranked third in the co-ed day schools category.The EducationWorld India School Rankings 2018-19, in collaboration with Centre for Forecasting & Research (C fore), interviewed 12,214 people, including teachers, students, parents, principals and educationists, from 27 cities to rate the country’s top 1,000 schools in 13 categories.Campion School and J B Petit High School, both in Fort, continued to hold the top positions in the boys’ day school and girls’ days school categories. “The key to a successful school is being child friendly. We use our parents’ strength and student participation to the best of the abilities and push to do things differently in a way children enjoy learning,” said Paul Machado, principal, Campion School.Echoing the need for participation from all stakeholders, Revathy Srinivasan, principal of Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School, said, “It is about having a clear vision and involvement for everyone including teachers, parents and students. We experiment with the curriculum every year...In our 50th year, we have ensured we had 50 years of experience and not one year repeated 50 times.” The Cathedral and John Connon School, Fort, at rank five was the other school to feature in the top 10 co-ed day school category.Diana Marfatia, principal of Bai Avabai Petit Girls’ High School, the new entrant in the top 10 girls’ schools list, said the institute had made efforts to improve academics, infrastructure and technology over the past few years. “There was a lot of team effort in improving each aspect of our school and together we were able to achieve it.”Dhirubhai Ambani International School retained its top position in international day school category. “We are delighted that DAIS has been ranked the best international school for the sixth consecutive year...Thiswill further inspire us to set new benchmarks, year after year,” said Nita Ambani, founder & chairperson, Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Mumbai’s share in the top 10 budget private schools went up to six from five institutes last year. Four schools for children with special needs figured in the top 10 in this category.All schools are assessed on 14 parameters and given marks out of a total of 1,500. While each parameter carries 100 marks, the one on teachers’ competency has double weightage.
