Thane: The crime branch probing the illegal Call Detail Record (CDR) case has got the custody of one more private detective in the illegal CDR leak case. The police said Shailesh Manjrekar, who runs a private detective agency, has been arrested by the anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai crime branch on August 5.The officer said, “Besides Manjrekar, one more aide was arrested for allegedly blackmailing a south Mumbai-based businessman as they illegitimately obtained his CDR and threatened to reveal his extra-marital affair to his wife. They then asked him to cough up Rs 2.5 crore.”During the probe of one of the arrested accused, Manjrekar’s name cropped up and subsequently he was transferred to the crime branch unit-1 for questioning.“Manjrekar’s name cropped up while probing Kirtesh Kavi for sourcing confidential information of various clients. He had taken money from Kavi and shared the information,” said a police officer. His arrest was vital in terms of connecting the dots in the case, added the officer.Police officials said that they had made a total 17 arrests, out of which 16 are on bail and Manjrekar is presently in police custody. It is learnt that many cops across the country are accused of sourcing CDRs illegally, but the police are not revealing any information about it. Manjrekar was earlier arrested by the Mumbai crime branch for sourcing the data and runs an Accent Confidential Investigation Pvt Ltd in Goregaon.Besides Manjrekar, one more aide was arrested for allegedly blackmailing a south Mumbai-based businessman as they illegitimately obtained his CDR and threatened to reveal his extra-marital affair to his wife.
